Mrs C Leyland is the attendance lead and works closely with Mrs R Rasul.

As headteacher, Mrs K Forsyth has full oversight of attendance across school.

School wish to work with families in order to achieve the best attendance outcomes for all pupils at Brookhouse.

At Brookhouse, our school attendance target for all pupils is at least 97%.

Why Good Attendance Matters?

Evidence shows that good school attendance links directly to long-term success and that even a few days of missed school can have a significant impact on a child's future prospects.

Academic Achievement and Attainment

  • Performance Gap: Students with 95–100% attendance are much more likely to meet academic benchmarks in reading, writing, and math.
  • Secondary School Impact: Near-perfect attendance in secondary school drastically improves the likelihood of passing GCSEs; missing just 10 additional days can halve the odds of achieving key grades.

Economic and Career Impact

  • Earnings and Employment: Regular attendance is strongly linked to higher lifetime earnings and increased stability in the job market, as frequent absences can limit future career opportunities.
  • Habit Formation: Consistently attending school helps cultivate key skills, such as reliability, time management and personal responsibility.

Social and Emotional Development

  • Well-being and Safety: Maintaining regular attendance supports the development of strong peer relationships, confidence and resilience. It also acts as a protective factor against risks associated with social isolation and exploitation.

Attendance in Early Years

At Brookhouse, attendance for our youngest pupils in our nursery and preschool class is just as important as it is for pupils of compulsory school age.

Please find below a poster which shows why attendance in the Early Years matters and how it contributes to long-term success.
