At Brookhouse, we are proud to be a strategic lead in the “Alliance of Leading Learning” - a new school led alliance, made up of the core team who were formerly directors, facilitators and consultants for “The Leadership Academy” at Edge Hill University - delivering the National Professional Qualifications for school leadership.
Over the past three years, our Leadership team has supported the development of school leaders through both the National College’s programme for leadership, as well as hosting leadership development in partnership with the Primary Science Quality Mark and the mandatory SENDco award. Our training and facilitation involves Head Teachers, Aspirant Head teachers, Senior Leaders, Middle Leaders, new Leaders and Governors – all of whom have participated in our leadership programmes. Our commitment to leadership development was recognised as a strength during our recent Ofsted inspection, whereby inspectors commented:
'Brookhouse is an outward-looking school. You work well in collaboration with other local schools, and your partnership with a local university has created many professional development opportunities for staff from your school and other schools in the neighbourhood. This further adds to the school’s strong capacity for continued improvement.' (Ofsted 2017)
The 'Gold Standard' in Leadership Development:
Moving forwards, NCTL have awarded us the licence to deliver the new National Professional Qualifications and ensure we continue to build on our reputable success in providing 'Gold Standard' professional learning locally which has had proven life changing impact on children and young people. Through our partnerships, we have delivered the NPQ programmes to 2,300 school leaders from diverse types of schools and have proven we provide outstanding learning opportunities as we are local credible leaders facilitating on the NPQ programmes - who are committed to improving children’s life chances. Haroon Asghar, Lead Facilitator of leadership development
Haroon Asghar is a well-seasoned teacher and senior leader, with experience of delivering high impact improvements to teaching and learning across the Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 & 2. As a serving deputy headteacher in a mainstream primary school, he is frequently involved in the professional development of teachers and support staff, leading courses, conferences and workshops on a national level. With a key interest in research-based practice, Haroon possesses an MA in Educational Leadership and a specialism in leadership development. Haroon has been a lead facilitator for the delivery of the National College's NPQ programme of qualifications for several years.
Debbie Withey, Lead Facilitator of leadership development
Debbie Withey is an experienced Head Teacher with a wealth of experience in school improvement and leadership development at all levels of the teaching profession. She is passionate about supporting schools to deliver excellence in teaching and learning and is currently involved in a two year programme to develop her expertise as an executive Head Teacher. Having completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship programme several years ago, Debbie has an in depth understanding of the need to develop leadership capacity to secure positive outcomes and, along with the senior leaders at her school, ensures this practice is modelled at all times. Debbie has been a lead facilitator for the delivery of the National College’s NPQ programmes for three years and as such, has contributed towards the development of scores of middle / senior leaders across the North West.
Lisa Banks, Co-facilitator of leadership development
As Assistant Headteacher in a mainstream primary school, Lisa is involved in delivering high impact improvements across school. She recognises the key role leadership plays in supporting the school ethos and is committed to creating a positive environment where everyone feels valued and inspired. Lisa believes that positive relationships underpin a successful school and as such, enjoys developing her own leadership skills and those of colleagues through exploring and adopting innovative practice. As an experienced mentor, she is actively involved in developing teachers and support staff through leading training and developing personalised learning plans. Lisa has completed the National Professional Qualification in Senior Leadership and has been facilitating the National College’s NPQ programme for middle leaders for a number of years.
Kathryn Forsyth, Co-facilitator of leadership development
Kathryn Forsyth is an experienced teacher and senior leader within a mainstream primary school. She is passionate about how both pupils and school staff learn, and as SEN Co has a specialism in supporting pupils with varied learning barriers. Kathryn is actively involved in mentoring both new and existing teachers/support staff. To continue with her own professional development, Kathryn has gained the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership and the National SEN Co Award in recent years. As a leadership facilitator delivering development programmes for middle leaders, Kathryn plays a valuable part in leading others through their own journeys of professional growth.
