Admissions

If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below.

Admission to Brookhouse Nursery and Pre-school (for children aged 2 to 4):

For children aged 2 to 4 we offer 15 hours early years provision per week within our nursery and pre-school setting.  We also offer 30 hours provision for pre-school children who are eligible. Should you wish to apply for a place for your child in our nursery/pre-school, please apply online using the following link  https://www.blackburn.gov.uk/schools-and-education/free-early-education-2-3-and-4-year-olds. Alternatively, you can collect an admissions form from the Early Years office and return it as soon as possible. In order to be compliant with the statutory guidance, we have a limit on how many places we are able to offer and places are offered on a first come, first served basis. If there are no places available, at your request we can keep your child on a waiting list and allocate a place to them, again on a first come, first served basis if a place becomes available at a later date.  Whilst we hope that children attending Brookhouse Pre-school will move on to Brookhouse Primary School, under current government legislation, we cannot guarantee a place and therefore you will still need to apply for a school place in line with the admissions procedure outlined in the policy below.

Admission to Brookhouse Primary school (for children aged 4 to 11):

30 children are admitted to the school each September in accordance with the Local Authority’s admission policy for primary schools.  Should you wish to apply for a place for your child to attend Brookhouse Primary school, admission applications are completed online at https://www.blackburn.gov.uk/schools-and-education/school-admissions/... .  The Local Authority will inform you if your application is successful. If the Local Authority is unable to offer you a place at Brookhouse, you have the right to appeal. If you need any information regarding your child's admission please contact the Local Authority in the first instance. Please refer to the admissions documentation online for further details and refer to our school prospectus page for information on your child starting school.

IN-YEAR ADMISSIONS

All in-year admissions will be dealt with by the Local Authority (LA) – Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

Blackburn with Darwen Appeals Process

If your child is not offered a place at your preferred school, you have the right to appeal against that decision to an independent appeal panel.

For community or voluntary controlled school appeals you can request an appeal form by calling Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council (01254 666605).

Once you have completed your form, you should return it to the organisation that sent you it.

If you submit your appeal in the normal admission round on time, your appeal will be heard within 40 school days.

At other times of the year, your appeal will be heard within 30 school days of the admissions team or the school receiving your completed appeal form.

A copy of the information relating to your appeal and details of the hearing will be sent to you 10 school days before your appeal is heard.

You will be invited to attend the appeal hearing to tell the independent panel why you feel your child should have a place at your preferred school.
